| Description | This semester-long Communication Skills course, divided into two seven-week parts (Part A: Weeks 1-7 and Part B: Weeks 8-14), develops the oral and aural fluency that high-intermediate English Language learners need for academic and professional success. Using a project-based approach, students will engage with relevant themes through collaborative and individual tasks. In Part A (Society and Health), students will analyze contemporary issues through research and discussion, culminating in the production of a persuasive deliverable. In Part B (Learning and Creativity), students will learn the art of persuasive speaking and visual design to deliver and formal "Pitch" presentation for an innovative idea. Throughout the course, learners will apply critical thinking to analyze academic lectures, practice effective note-taking, and construct compelling arguments. An emphasis on digital literacy, collaborative teamwork and guided self-assessment of speaking skills prepares learners for dynamic communication in a college environment. To connect classroom learning with real-world practice, students will participate in experiential field trips, providing authentic opportunities to use English in community settings. |
