Description | In this Part 2 course, students will deepen their learning of ethical responsibilities for working as a professional in their respective future fields. Students will examine the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of professionals working in the community and child service fields. Through case scenarios, students will be challenged by ethical dilemmas that arise in the field, and learn how to navigate these situations using their core values and professional judgement. The exploration of training opportunities that respond to the student’s professional goals will be the primary focus of this course. Students will be encouraged to discuss their career aspirations and create a responsive plan of action that supports goal attainment. Students will gain experiential knowledge through the peer mentor program. As part of their experiential learning and decision-making process, students will get an opportunity to attend a week’s worth of classes with their mentors from their chosen diploma program. Students will also learn about opportunities to earn Specialized Academic Certificates such as Indigenous Studies: First Peoples in Canada, Inclusive Leadership practices, and Entrepreneurism once they commence their chosen diploma programs. Students will learn about what it means to have an entrepreneurial mindset to their career as well as resilience in facing their challenges, taking initiative in their work, and self-actualization to become their best selves. Students will engage in reflective practice to realize that their career journey will be a windy road and think through their decisions using case studies, simulations, and video examples. As well, students will honour the critical importance of ethics in working with vulnerable people in the community and child sectors. |
