Community & Experiential Policing

Course CodePFPR-231
Lecture hours per week
Lab hours per week
Course AvailabilityOpen
Description

This unique problem-solving course will give students the ability to practice the theory and communication skills that they have learned throughout the curriculum. Individually students will engage in an IPE by completing a minimum of 10 hours assisting, observing and interacting with early child care education staff on campus.

Students will have the opportunity to interact directly with children and observe their behaviour. As children are identified as one of society’s three vulnerable sectors, (the other two being the elderly and mentally challenged), special care and attention is required when interacting with them.

Following this experience, students will report their findings in a reflective essay. This exercise is predicated on student's obtaining a current police vulnerable sector records check. If they are unable to obtain the clearance, an alternative assignment will be provided.
