| Description | This course examines the principles of community development and advocacy. Students will learn to develop, implement and evaluate effective strategies for inclusion of people with developmental disabilities and their families in the community. The family component of the course examines the history of the family in a social context and the current changing needs of diverse families. Students will learn how to support families who have intellectually disabled members. This course focuses on ways of promoting growth and empowerment of people with developmental disabilities and their families. Family resilience is discussed using a strengths-based perspective.
