Description | This lab course will provide students with an opportunity to read, interpret, enter data, process and dispense prescriptions in a simulated community pharmacy environment considering current pharmacy laws and regulations. Students will be introduced to drug dosage forms and prescription components as well as generic and brand drug names. They will bring with them the skills learned in computer, jurisprudence and math classes. The student will be responsible for efficiently counting, packaging and labeling prescriptions of various dosage forms while ensuring a high standard of patient care. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, error detection and prevention, speed and overall completeness of the prescription. Students will have the opportunity to engage in role-playing and will be introduced to the concept of an Independent Double Check (IDC). Opportunities will be provided for the development of proficiency though weekly quizzes, practical tests, simulations and self-reflection. |
