Community Practice Theory

Description

This theory course will provide students with an opportunity to investigate common pharmacy practices used in current community pharmacy settings. Students will be introduced to drug dosage forms, routes of administration and prescription components. They will bring with them the skills used in computer, jurisprudence, math and dispensing classes. The student will be responsible for interpreting, transferring and copying prescriptions through role-playing, case studies and Independent Double Check (IDC) type exercises. Emphasis will be placed on efficiency, error detection and prevention and accuracy. Students will also have an opportunity to complete a mandatory observation exercise in a community pharmacy practice setting. Opportunities will be provided for the development of proficiency through tests, case studies and group exercises.
