| Description | This course has a dual purpose: to familiarize students with the basic technical drawing elements of mechanical engineering graphics and to introduce the concepts and features of the AutoCAD and Inventor computer-assisted drafting programs. The course covers the principles of graphic communication, projections, and the industrial standards used in typical engineering drawings. It also addresses the application of drafting theory by using the computer as an electronic drafting board and design tool. Additionally, students will use computer-aided design and simulation methods to develop and test solutions. Weekly instruction is delivered in two parts: a two-hour theory class and a two-hour lab session. Theory sessions, held in classrooms, include lectures as well as individual manual sketching. Lab sessions, held in a Mechanical CAD lab, introduce students to new drafting principles and the CAD commands, operations, and techniques required to apply the theory. A series of specifically designed exercises assigned throughout the course provides students with the practice needed for skill development. |
