| Description | The dual purpose of this course is to allow the student to become familiarized with the basic elements of technical drawing as well as the concepts and features of the AutoCAD computer-assisted-drafting program. The course will discuss the principles of visual thinking and graphic communication and the industrial standards utilized in typical engineering drawings. By using the CAD hardware/software as an electronic drawing board, students will implement these drafting techniques to produce graphic documents typically used in the engineering field (eg: mechanical, civil, architectural, environmental, etc.) Weekly instruction will be given in one of the AutoCAD equipped labs in a 3-hour lecture/lab session consisting of approximately ½ -hour theory (engineering graphic/CAD software) and 2½-hours of hands-on lab practice. In each session the student will be introduced to new drafting principles as well as the necessary AutoCAD commands, operations and techniques to implement the theory. A series of specifically designed illustrative exercises, which will be assigned during the course, will provide the student with the necessary practice for skill development. |
