| Description | Organizations today face the challenging task of protecting and securing their data networks due to the ever-increasing network and information attacks on non-profit, commercial, and government computing systems. This course offers an overview of the core theoretical concepts and technical aspects of computer and network security, including access control, malicious software, cryptography and authentication, as well as related government regulations and standards. Various security models, policies and implementation techniques will be explained and evaluated, using a common criteria methodology. Students completing this course will have the capability to appreciate the critical importance of security as an essential part of network design and to describe, discuss and design network security solutions using classical and contemporary models. The evolving nature, challenges, and role of computer and network security and the security professional in designing, implementing, maintaining and managing a secured data network will be examined. |
