The concept of BIG DATA is playing an increasing role in industries, such as retail, internet, financial and others. This course introduces students to advanced customer analytics for marketing using XLMiner and the Analytic Solver Platform. The course will expose students to the use of data mining and database analysis techniques to identify interesting nuggets of knowledge extracted from BIG DATA. Students will be introduced to the fundamental principles of data mining and a variety of data mining tools, when to use them and techniques for the analysis of data. The students will be shown the importance of data hygiene prior to the analysis and interpretation of data.

The course will follow the four step approach in solving business problems:
1) Identifying the Business Problem
2) Creation of the Analytical File
3) Applying the Right Tools and Techniques
4) Implementation and Measurement

Topics include:
a) The ability to prioritize problems that can be solved through data mining
b) The data audit process and data hygiene
c) Database structures and organization
d) Exploratory Data Analysis
e) Advanced Excel Concepts
f) Predictive Models
