Description | This 14-week course provides an in-depth exploration of genocide, reconciliation, and peacebuilding. It features 11 weeks of lectures, an archival research lab, a Filmscreening session and student presentations. Students will study case examples like Holocaust, Rwanda, Cambodia, Armenia, Genocide and contemporary genocides likethe Darfur (Sudan) and Yazidi Genocide by the Islamic State, examining the historical, legal, and sociopolitical aspects, along with the limitations of current legalframeworks regarding events like slavery and Indigenous decimation. Hands-on archival labs enhance learning by allowing students to engage with historical documents. By analyzing the role of gender, storytelling, and religion in bothconflicts and their resolution, students will examine a multifaceted approach of peacebuilding. Ideal for students interested in human rights, peacebuilding, globalcitizenship, or international law. As a mixed-format course combining lectures, labs, and presentations, it provides both theoretical and practical perspectives on genocide and peace building. |
