Description

In this course students will examine the contribution of research to the development of paramedic practice. They will explore the relationships between research and knowledge, theory and practice. The focus will be on understanding the components of the research process, interpreting and evaluating EMS / paramedic based research studies, applying research findings to practice and identifying areas for further EMS / paramedic research. Students will have the opportunity to explore methodologies in both qualitative and quantitative research. Descriptive and inferential statistics and qualitative data analysis will be introduced. Students will learn to search the paramedic and health-related literature and to process numerical and non-numerical data. The ethical conduct of research will also be addressed. Strategies for critically reviewing, integrating and disseminating research findings to practice will be discussed.
