Description

This course covers the operating characteristics, inspection, and servicing of camshafts and valve trains according to manufacturers’ standards. It also covers the operation, inspection, diagnosis, and replacement procedures for turbochargers and superchargers.

In addition, other engine systems—such as cooling systems, accessory drive belts, and engine lubrication systems—will be explored. The operation, recommended service, and diagnosis of these systems will be covered. Engine failure analysis will encompass all engine systems.

Students will study diagnostic procedures for the primary and secondary causes of component failure and perform assessments on various engine components. Running engine diagnostics will also be performed to verify proper engine performance using a range of specialty diagnostic test equipment.
