Description

At the completion of this course, students will be able to describe and apply sustainable building design concepts relating to housing for seniors. A review of design concepts that address a variety of challenges and limitations specific to seniors will be undertaken. Topics will include interior and exterior mobility issues, physical and mental health limitations, indoor environment concerns, and services and amenities for seniors. Typical and innovative types of seniors’ housing tenures and government and private funding mechanisms will also be examined. These concepts will be supported by the review of a case study detailing the conversion of an existing school into a seniors’ apartment building.
