Ethics and Social Justice 2

Course CodeAECE-725
Lecture hours per week
Lab hours per week
Course AvailabilityOpen
Description

While one’s individual practice of arts engagement should be inclusive, there are also broader implications of working in communities and schools with and through the arts. This course examines the theoretical and practical considerations underlying ethical engagement with diverse, oppressed, or at-risk communities. Focusing in the “big picture” ethics of the sector, this course addresses issues of appropriation, sustainability, program authenticity, and the kind of responsibility one has to the work beyond the individual project. Students will examine the differences between a community voice and a professional voice, and explore opportunities for activism within the sector.
