Exploring Identity: Values and Societal Trends

Course CodeGNED-303
Lecture hours per week
Lab hours per week
Course AvailabilityOpen
Description

This course will examine how identities shape and are shaped by the social relationships that we experience on a daily basis. Students will be asked to explore questions such as, “How do my interactions with my family and friends shape who I am?” and “How does being labeled a „youth‟ influence how other people treat me?” This course will also investigate the history of issues such as sexism, racism, and classism, and how they are used by modern societies to control populations. Through reflection, discussion, and a range of class activities, students will learn how to critically analyze the impact that social factors have on their personal identity.
