Foundations of Health Promotion

Description

This course investigates key definitions, concepts and theories that underlie both the theory and practice of health promotion. Students will gain a critical understanding of the social, economic, cultural and political considerations associated with health promotion through the examination of several milestone documents and key best practice strategies, across several practice settings. In addition, the students will explore the history and structure of the Canadian health care system and evaluate its significance to overall population health. An examination of basic research principles, various study designs, and ways to interpret data to ensure ethical, evidence-based health promotion practices.
