Description

This course is intended to provide the student with an introduction to fuel fundamentals including chemical characteristics of hydrocarbon based fuels and how they relate to engine operation and performance. Fuel storage and delivery system basics will be explored through the topic of light duty vehicle diesel based engines. Supporting systems such as intake and exhaust systems and their role in moving air will also be discussed. The production of emission bi-products is still a component of the internal combustion engine. Their properties, effects on the environment, and systems designed to minimize their production and release will be introduced. Both theory and practical based instruction will be utilized.
