Genocide Literature

Description: Genocide Literature will comparatively examine literary expressions (memoirs, fiction and poetry) that have focused on four different genocidal events: Amerindian, Armenian, Jewish and Rwandan. The course also provides a brief historical overview of each genocide. The essential learning experience for the student could be summarized as the formulation of a personal viewpoint on genocide and genocide literature that is historically, aesthetically and ethically informed, a formulation that will be aided and reinforced by several other courses in the program (e.g., GS-212: Ethical Reasoning for Today’s World, and GS-200: The Twentieth Century).
