Description | Alcohol Beverages are not just another consumer product but rather has the potential to be harmful to individuals, vulnerable communities and society collectively. As such it merits special attention to ensure the public interest in appropriately addressed. Beginning with a survey of the public policy landscape including trade associations and special interest groups, this course examines the regulatory framework governing the beverage alcohol industry in Ontario and by extension the common features of state regulated systems in both Canada and the United States. Competing interests, regulatory models and the respective roles of the public and private sector in each are evaluated. Finally, the challenges inherit constructing authentic Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies in the alcohol beverages industry are assessed in detail, including – quality assurance, responsible retailing, ethical sourcing and environmental sustainability. |
