Description

Students will explore theories relevant to working with and in groups. Students will apply these group theories in a classroom/lab setting. Students will examine group dynamics, leadership styles, managing group conflict, as well as forming and facilitating groups. Through participation in lab exercises, the students will experience the dual focus of working in groups, that is, task and process. Students will gain knowledge about development, planning, and facilitation of small groups in a variety of community development work settings while addressing diverse community needs. Through active participation in small groups, students will become acquainted with group process. Students will experience and examine first-hand what group leadership and group participation entails as well as what it means to work collaboratively on a team.
