| Description | This course prepares students to understand group dynamics and facilitate effective groups in addiction and mental health settings. Students will examine theories of group development, leadership styles, and conflict management and apply these concepts to group work practice. Through classroom activities, case studies, and applied lab exercises, students will learn to plan, facilitate, and evaluate small groups. The course explores the dual focus of group work: —task (content) and process—and how facilitators support participation, safety, and collaboration within groups. Students will develop practical skills in teamwork, communication, and collaborative problem-solving while gaining experience leading groups that support individuals, families, and communities affected by addiction and mental health challenges. Emphasis is placed on facilitating inclusive and responsive groups that address diverse client needs in professional practice settings. |
