Description

This course offers the opportunity to explore the physical, social and emotional dimensions of children’s health. Students will develop a health promotion philosophy that reflects sensitivity to the individual needs of infants and toddlers and the primary role of family. Principles of this philosophy will be applied to health practices and policies that support the health of children, families and caregivers. To ensure that health needs of individual children are met, the importance of child development knowledge, sensitive observation skills, ongoing parent-caregiver communication, and collaboration with other professionals will be emphasized. As safety and protection are primary concerns of infant-toddler caregivers, the course will include the development of attitudinal approaches to safety and nurturance as well as the practical aspects of designing and maintaining a safe environment.
