Description
This course examines the philosophical roots and historical development of social service work as a profession with its associated body of knowledge, skills and values. Specific attention will be paid to the dual focus of the profession private troubles and public issues. Various delivery models analysed in relation to historical events and ideological shifts. Discuss the impact of social movements on the role of the social service worker. Develop an awareness of the impact of the media on events and ideas. The focus is on a Canadian content.
