This course will focus on the pharmacy technician’s triage role in gathering patient information that assists the pharmacist with product recommendations. Building on knowledge developed in semester one, this course provides students the opportunity to become familiar with commonly requested over-the-counter (OTC) medications and home health care products and devices. Particular emphasis is placed on the development and practice of patient communication and questioning strategies. Small group work and class discussion provide the student the opportunity to develop proficiency in utilizing technician triage, teaching / informing patients of proper device use and identifying OTC product usage and customer demographics.
