An Introduction to the Global Experiences of Indigenous Peoples

Description

This course will examine various concepts and themes relevant to Indigenous
peoples in Canada and globally. Through this course, students will explore
Indigenous ways of knowing and what constitutes Indigeneity/Indigenous
identity. Students will also examine the impacts of colonialism on Indigenous
population in Canada and other regions in the world. This will necessitate an
exploration of the various instruments of oppression that colonial governments
employed on Indigenous people. The course will conclude with an examination
of contemporary struggles that Indigenous people are engaged in in an effort for
self determination and sovereignty.
