Description
As a concept, intellectual disability is complex. This course is an introduction to disabilities, especially the field of intellectual disability. Many diverse disciplines interact in the processes of providing services and supporting individuals, their families and their communities. Terms and assumptions underlying models of care and supports and services for every day life challenges for individuals with disabilities will be explored. Social issues of poverty, abuse, discrimination, oppression and social justice will be studied for their impact on people with a disability. Course Length: 45 hours: 3 hours per week for 15 weeks
