| Description | This course introduces internationally-educated nurses to advanced concepts relating to issues, trends and leadership in nursing. In addition, this course continues to build upon previous content from Nursing in Ontario, IEPN 123. The ethical decision-making framework will be introduced and applied to concepts such as abuse, confidentiality, complaints and the discipline process, as well as to end-of-life decisions. This course will explore and apply concepts of leadership, delegation, and conflict resolution. The role of the nurse as a teacher will also be examined. Nursing leadership within a variety of organizational structures, including Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs), resident and long term care facilities, and community settings, will be discussed. This course will provide internationally-educated nurses with a unique learning experience in the care of special populations, including those who have traditionally been under-served or inappropriately serviced. In addition, the IEPN student will be given a basic understanding of the importance of nursing research and evidence based practice in addressing the trends and issues affecting nursing and health care (social, political, and economic) in Ontario and Canada. |
