Description | This course examines the many skills, approaches and theories fundamental to coaching, counseling and interpersonal communication. A strong emphasis is placed on the importance of all forms of communication, motivational strategies and various approaches to personal decision making strategies as they relate to active living. Students are taught how to identify and respond effectively to various client issues through various communication strategies. A strong focus will be placed on behaviour change and the benefits of engaging in fitness and health promotion activities for enhanced well-being. In preparation for their placement experience in semester three, students will discuss key practice issues, professional values, practicum roles and responsibilities and learn how to write effective resumes, use social media and brand themselves, as part of the course. A panel of experts from the fitness field will deliver presentations on various employment options in the industry. |
