Description

The purpose of this course is to examine manufacturing and production systems, as well as the fundamentals of production processes and material selection. This course introduces students to common manufacturing processes with relevant details, including traditional and non-traditional machining processes. Topics include plastics, ceramics, composites and metal manufacturing, machining, welding, rolling, hot and cold working, grinding, surface treatment, casting, sheet metal, rapid prototyping, powder metallurgy and forging. It also explores the workings of each process, along with its relative merits and limitations, and the interaction between materials and processes. This course also provides comprehensive coverage of automation and computer-integrated manufacturing.
