Description

This course familiarizes students with behavior, properties and characteristics of engineering materials (metals, polymers and ceramics). This course also introduces students to common manufacturing processes and laboratory practice in manufacturing environment. Topics include plastics and steels manufacturing. It also provides the workings of each process, with its relative merits and limitations, as well as the interaction between the material and the process. Introduction to the topic of corrosion and control methods.  This course also introduces concept of Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, Lean Manufacturing (JIT, etc.), Manufacturing Cells and SMED.
