Lecture hours per week
Lab hours per week
Course AvailabilityOpen
Description
This course provides a continuous practice experience that will consolidate previous learning and allow opportunities for Registered Practical Nurses and internationally-educated nurses to advance their mental health nursing practice expertise in the provision of nursing care for clients and/or families. This course will provide students with an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge of mental health and crisis management nursing to clinical practice. Students will be able to develop both cognitive and psychomotor skills necessary to perform patient assessments by gathering a health history, and by performing a mental status assessment. Students will be able to analyze this data to develop a plan of care for clients with mental illness. The student will have an opportunity to examine how the social, cultural, economic and political environment of mental health will influence his/her practice.
