Description

This course is designed to assist students in developing their ability to recognize, analyze and evaluate historical and political issues regarding social and cultural perceptions of Twentieth and Twenty-First Century North American music. Students will expand their awareness of their individual identities in contemporary music culture while acquiring a sense of the impact of commercial activities of music on the social self. This course provides analytical tools to understand media theories, economics and operations of the music industry and the effects of technological advancements on music and consumerism.
