Description | In this course students will conduct a risk assessment by integrating knowledge gained in the program and applying it to the workplace. This course enables the students to learn experientially by assuming the role of a health and safety practitioner in assessing and prioritizing risks by inspecting a workplace. As part of the assessment, students will assess the likelihood and severity of the hazards they identified, review relevant documentation available to determine effective action to be taken to mitigate risks. Through the risk assessment students will evaluate the existing controls for effectiveness and make recommendations for corrective measures in the form of a plan. The capstone project draws upon all other courses in the program to enable students to gain an understanding of the real-life applications of occupational health and safety management in the workplace. Students will integrate knowledge of occupational health and safety management systems, hazard identification and assessment techniques, and appropriate control measures for hazards identified in the workplace. They will communicate with and consult stakeholders in this process and will share their findings to give constructive feedback. The final submission will be a written report and presentation. |
