| Description | This course provides a basic knowledge of workplace occupational health and safety. The student will learn safe work practices in offices, industry and laboratories as well as how to identify and prevent or correct problems associated with occupational safety and health at work and at home. This course will be useful to all students and employees, regardless of whether they are directly, or indirectly responsible for health and safety. Occupational Health and Safety in an ever changing and ever evolving field with some specific technical subject areas. The major topic areas included in this course are physical agents, psychological hazards, hazard recognition and assessment, hazard control, work place violence, legislation with special emphasis placed on chemical and biological hazards and their management in the laboratories along with other topics of interest. The course is designed to assist students with the implementation of safe healthy practices at laboratory, work and at home. By the end of this course students will understand their responsibilities as related to the internal responsibility system, and that health and safety is everybody’s responsibility. |
