This course will focus on the editor’s role in a production. Students will be encouraged to develop the communication and interpersonal skills needed to be successful film and tv editors. Students will analyze, interpret and break down performances, shot selection and pacing. Students will acquire a comprehensive understanding of picture, sound, effects and music editing, audio mixing and the many other elements that go into the delivery of the final film. Students will learn how to “be the audience”, to stay fresh and open-minded about the material no matter how many cuts they have seen or done. Students will acquire a thorough understanding of how camera lenses and music choices can influence an audience’s emotional reaction to what they are seeing on the screen. Finally, students will learn what producers and directors expect of an editor and how to develop strategies for a successful editing career.
