Description	This course provides a Canadian historical perspective for students to explore the relationship between the structure of power and the rise of social movements challenging the inequitable distribution of power. Focus will be on the social, economic, and political factors that impact the distribution of power in Canada, that is, who has power and who does not and why. The course will explore the relationship between power and social/ policy change. Course Learning Outcomes: Compare and contrast the ideologies, leadership, structures, strategies, and outcomes of social movements that have influenced social welfare and society, and the pursuit of social justice. Create a social action project that uses knowledge and experience from social movements, such as, civil/human rights, labour, and feminist movements, and connecting and networking with groups and leaders involved in present day social movement strategies and issues to bring about policy/social change.
