Description | Explore counselling approaches including, problem-solving, task-centered casework, and crisis intervention methods. Communication and interviewing skills introduced in the first semester will be explored in greater depth. Examine and demonstrate the assessment process and the skills needed to establish appropriate goals for counselling. Familiarization with many agencies serving the community and the role of the social service worker in such agencies will be a focus. Examine and develop an inclusive model of practice. Particular attention will be paid to the use of themselves as a "tool" in the helping process and the need to demonstrate appropriate professional behaviours. Four hours are assigned to independent study where students will experience agencies first hand. |
