| Description | This course will introduce the purpose, methodology, analysis, politics and ethics of qualitative social science research. Topics will include research goals, methods, and data collection techniques. The historical roots as well as the present day application of qualitative research will be examined. Individually and in small groups, the students will critically examine current research reports. After carefully selecting a research topic, approved by the professor, students will research the existing literature in the library and on the web. In carefully designed cooperative learning assignments and group projects, the students will practice specific data collection techniques (interviewing, observation, etc.) analysis, interpretation and presentation of the findings. |
