Description

This course provides an introduction to current issues and methodologies in recruiting and selecting employees within a Canadian context. Both federal and provincial human rights legislation affecting recruitment and selection will be examined. Scientifically based procedures in recruitment and selection will be introduced that meet technical, professional, and Canadian legal standards. This course looks at recruitment and selection as essential components of strategic human resource planning and emphasizes their role in enhancing productivity. Contemporary developments in interviewing, cognitive ability testing, personality testing, drug and honesty testing, and human rights are also examined. Issues of globalization such as the impact of national and international competition and free-trade agreements will be discussed.
