Description | Within this course, learners will have the opportunity to learn the value of, and engage in a self and collective reflective practice; a critical skill to have for both the learners’ personal and professional development and wellbeing, and the care and wellbeing of the community members they are supporting. By learning to ‘step back’, learners will have the opportunity to reflect on and in turn, work through and challenge some of the concerns, assumptions, biases, and activations they may be experiencing in field placement, and to re-imagine and cultivate the skill of problem-solving, seeing, doing, and practicing from a new and/or alternative perspective. Learners will build on their learning and grow as learners and professionals in training by exemplifying a deeper awareness of their social location, professional/self-knowledge and action, by reflecting and critically evaluating their responses to field placement practice experiences. Through the use of reflective practice, field placement experiences and critical self-reflection, learners will gain insight into self in relation to others. Engaging in collective discussions, monthly reflections, and collaborative classroom participation will provide the learners with a supportive forum in which to integrate classroom teachings and practice. Learners will explore ‘real life’ working as an AMHW, and examine the AMHW skills and Essential Employability Skills used during their field placement experience through peer discussion, reflective writing, peer and faculty support. |
