Description:

This course encourages students to review and summarize scholarly articles relevant to the field of disability. Research is based on the premise that in any given situation there is always more to learn.  Graduates of the DSW program will better serve others if they know when, and how to access and apply new knowledge relevant to their work. Students are encouraged to develop their skills by determining how they might apply the information they learn. They will use journal articles relevant to the field to summarize and analyze articles, with the focus on Social Role Valorization.

Course Learning Outcomes

The student will reliably demonstrate the ability to:

  1. Use library database tools to research topics relevant to people with intellectual disabilities.
  2. Summarize and critique journal articles orally and in writing
  3. Cite sources in-text and in Reference lists in APA format
  4. Explain the information in References and its possible uses
  5. Lead discussions about journal articles relevant to people with intellectual disabilities
  6. Develop an annotated bibliography on a topic relevant to people with intellectual disabilities
  7. Develop a literature review on a topic relevant to people with intellectual disabilities
