| Description | This course develops students’ research literacy and their ability to apply research to addiction and mental health practice. Students will learn how to locate, interpret, and critically analyze research and understand the role of ethics and evidence-informed practice in the field. Students will explore research related to diverse populations and key issues in addiction and mental health, including topics such as: women (including pregnant people), youth, older adults, First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities, 2SLGBTQI+ communities, racialized communities, newcomers, people with disabilities, individuals who are under-housed or experiencing homelessness, and people living with concurrent disorders or trauma. Each student will investigate promising or emerging practice approaches related to a chosen population or issue. Students will critically reflect on the implications of research for practice and develop a knowledge dissemination product to share their findings with peers. Drawing on prior learning related to social innovation, social entrepreneurship, and cultural safety, students will design strategies to communicate research knowledge in ways that are accessible and relevant to addiction and mental health work. |
