Description

The course introduces students to qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, methods and techniques in development research, as well as practical skills of research proposal development and writing. Using a participatory research approach, the course considers a range of current, practical and ethical issues, principles, norms and challenges of conducting collaborative research in development contexts, as well as its importance and benefits for program, project and policy planning. Students participate in both group and independent research assignments to learn steps in the research process, from developing research questions, to design of fieldwork techniques and instruments, to selection of sampling strategies, and to methods of data collection, analysis, interpretation, representation and dissemination of findings.
