Rural Development and Global Food Systems

This course explores rural development issues concerning livelihoods, property rights, land reform, resettlement, poverty and vulnerability, and how they are related to issues of food security and equitable access to food. The link between smallholder farmers and the larger global issues such as climate change, environmental protection, international trade, hunger and malnutrition will be examined. Students will learn the impacts of international and national policies and new science and technology affecting agricultural and food security issues.
