Description

What is the self? In addressing this question, students will be introduced to the core concepts and theories of the self from philosophical, psychological, psychiatric and neuroscientific perspectives. Throughout the course, students will explore, analyze, compare, discuss and assess the different theories, conceptual analyses and empirical findings on the notion of the self. Students will also explore and discuss the self’s identity, unity and its physical, bodily and psychological constitutions in virtue of specific psychiatric and neurological pathologies, such as anosognosia, asomatognosia, depersonalization, depression, and schizophrenia.
