Description | Students will be introduced to the issues involved in designing and developing documentation for software and hardware products. The course will be process- as well product-oriented: in addition to analyzing end products such as paper manuals, on-line help systems, and Web pages, the instructor will specify how these products are planned and produced. In particular, students will learn how documentation and software design and development processes are (or perhaps "should be") woven together so that both can be tested, evaluated and eventually packaged and shipped together. Additional topics such as the psychology of reading, elements of graphic design, writing for an international audience, hypertext, managing translation, authoring tools, and the organizational politics of life as a technical author will be illustrated. |
