The Show Must Go On!: Theatre Studies

Course CodeGNED-224
Lecture hours per week
Lab hours per week
Course AvailabilityOpen
Description

What makes theatre so special? This course examines the ancient and modern art form of theatre, and its unique ability to affect an audience, change minds, affect memory, and evoke empathy. Students will be actively engaged as they do a group scene study of a play, and respond to texts in both a personal and analytical context. The course will look at theatre's relationship to contemporary audiences as compared to other media. Theatre will be discussed in a historical and social context, including looking into its future and how it may change in an increasingly diverse and technological world. Students will also identify the practical aspects of staging a play and will examine their own identities as they write a short scene or monologue.
