Description | Every day, law enforcement and security officers face the potential of having to engage with members of the public. Occasionally encounters are in times of crisis, that may require physical intervention. Understanding what a crisis is and having a mindset of de-escalation, with safety for all parties being paramount, will promote ethical professional decision-making. If physical intervention is required, law enforcement and security personnel need to know when it may be appropriate to apply force and if so to what extent. People serving in these capacities also need to know how to anticipate danger so that they can protect themselves and members of the public. This course introduces students to appropriate ways of thinking, behaving and reporting such actions. |
