Description

This course will allow students to explore the historical perspective relating to the treatment, law, and punishment as applied to young offenders within Canada. It also teaches the current and up to date legislation in all aspects dealing with youth including Provincial Statutes, Criminal Code and Youth Criminal Justice Act. 

This course gives the student background on development and enforcement of the law related to statutes and case law and examines the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms as it relates to youth. It will also give students the ability to understand the vast differences between how Young Offenders are treated by the present day Youth Criminal Justice Act versus how Adult Offenders
are dealt with within the Criminal Code of Canada.
